When comedian Jim Gaffigan hit the stage at Caesars Windsor this weekend, he made it obvious he was in Canada. His comedic rant about Tim Hortons and poutine had the massive crowd cheering and clapping along. Once he settled in, the comedy was fast and furious.
Dressed in a simple blue sweater, black jeans and some adidas runners, Gaffigan was at home on the stage, relaxed and prepared for more than an hour of some very funny material.
Gaffigan is an actor, writer, producer, four-time Grammy nominated comedian, two-time New York Times bestselling author, two-time Emmy top touring performer, and multi-platinum selling father of five. He was recently named one of the world’s highest grossing comedians by Forbes, and is one of only ten comedians in history to sell out the famed Madison Square Garden arena. In 2016, he opened for Pope Francis in front of one million+ people in Philadelphia, during the Pope’s visit to the US. 2019 was Gaffigan’s biggest year to date with an astonishing eight films opening, three of which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival – Troop Zero (Viola Davis, Allison Janney), Them That Follow (Olivia Colman, Walton Goggins) and Light From Light (Marin Ireland) – leading many festival goers to call Gaffigan the “King of Sundance.” He debuted in his first two leading roles in the comedy Being Frank and the thriller, American Dreamer, which are now available for download. Additionally, Troop Zero will soon be released by Amazon Studios.
Once he settled in, the comedy was fast and furious.
Also in 2019, Gaffigan recently released his unprecedented 7th stand up special, Quality Time with Amazon, making history as their first original comedy special.
Supporting the tour and warming up the crowd was a very thick bearded Ted Alexandro. Some might recognize him from multiple appearances on David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson and The View. He’s also had two half-hour specials on Comedy Central, so his face might be familiar to some comedy fans. His short and punchy set was one of the better opening acts I’ve seen performed on most major tours and he’d be a welcome performer at any show.
