The 519 Magazine story didn't start in a boardroom. It started with a loud amp and a deadline in Vancouver back in 2009. We launched as RockStar Weekly, hitting the West Coast pavement to cover the grit and glamour of the music industry before packing the gear and hauling it across the country. That move in 2017 landed us in Windsor — and we've been a fixed, loud-mouthed staple of the Southwestern Ontario entertainment scene ever since. We're not watching the show from the cheap seats. We're in the pits, the press rooms and the opening-night crowds, making sure local art gets the same heavyweight respect as the stadium tours and the multiplex releases.
But a legacy is only as good as the archives it's built on. Throughout 2026 and 2027, we're exhaling a massive collection of history by bringing back the original RockStar Weekly Archives as brand-new stories. This isn't a nostalgia trip. We're re-contextualising those classic moments for a new era — proving that the energy we captured in Vancouver nearly 20 years ago still carries a heavy signal today. Our roots are in the Pacific Northwest. The noise we're making now is in the Ontario corridor. The two have always belonged in the same conversation.
We've spent years refining a style that values raw truth over corporate polish, and that focus hasn't shifted an inch. Whether we're reviewing a film at the Cineplex, a theatre production in London, a gallery opening in Windsor or a paperback that nobody's talking about yet — the mission stays the same: keep it direct, keep it sharp, and never bury the lead. 519 Magazine is the only publication in this region built by people who actually care about the labour and heart behind the culture. We're just getting started on the next decade of volume.
519 Magazine is published by Tonality Media Group, a Canadian independent media company dedicated to arts and culture journalism that doesn't pull its punches. We built 519 because the region deserved better coverage. Tonality exists to make sure it stays that way.
