The Windsor Spitfires played their final regular season home game against the spiraling Sarnia Sting last night in front of a thunderously loud crowd at Windsor’s WFCU Centre. Before the puck drop there was a ceremony honoring departing players Noah Morneau, Ryan Abraham and Tnias Mathurin.
After a scoreless first period, Noah Morneau got things going with a nice backhand in front of the net off a pass from Ilya Protas five minutes into the second. Three minutes later it was Protas to Morneau again, this time on a breakaway from the Spits' blueline.
Later in the period, Sarnia would allow Protas to get back to the puck on a Windsor penalty kill and set up Ryan Abraham for a short-hander to make it 3-0 for Windsor. Morneau would get his hat trick just over a minute later on the powerplay and end the period with a 4-0 lead.

In the middle of the third period it would be Protas again with the assist on a tip from AJ Spellacy and the Spits win it 5-0 against the desperate Sarnia Sting. Sarnia needed a win for a chance to make the playoffs, and with time running out, it’s not looking good.
The Spits have their final game tonight against the London Knights in London and their playoff opponent is yet to be determined.
