Review: Slash and Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators Ignite Caesars Windsor

There’s no denying Slash is a rock icon. The curly-haired axe-slinger with the black top hat is recognized throughout the world for his work with Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver. With GNR off the road since December [2018], Slash must have had the itch to tour and was out there supporting his album *Living the Dream*. He pulled into Caesars Windsor on Friday, July 26, 2019, for a show with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.

Much like Guns N’ Roses, there’s a little unpredictability when Slash comes to town. How many songs will he play? Will there be any GNR or Velvet Revolver? That night in Windsor, he played a large 19-song set of mostly Conspirators music, a handful from his 2010 solo album, *Slash*, and one lone GNR song.

While GNR fans might have been a bit disappointed with that outcome, Slash is no slouch – he rocked the place hard. Conspirators shows are hard-ass rock and roll, and if the band and audience aren’t sweaty by the end of the show, something must be wrong. By the look of everyone at the end, it was a good night.

The five-piece band features two Canadian members – Winnipeg drummer Brent Fitz (known for his tours with Gene Simmons, Alice Cooper, and a bunch of great Canadian acts) and Estevan, Saskatchewan, bassist Todd Kerns (known for Age of Electric, Faster Pussycat, and a bunch of Canadian acts). That duo appears out west in the cover band Toque.

To celebrate the Windsor show, Kerns sported a The Tea Party 'Black River' tour shirt the entire time, showing his support for the rock band that originated from Windsor.

Oh, and that one lone Guns N’ Roses song was 'Nightrain'.

California rockers Joyous Wolf opened the show with a set, mostly comprised of music from their latest EP, *Place In Time*.

Slash’s performance was another of several great rock shows Caesars Windsor brought to the city that year. Upcoming events mentioned at the time included Moist and Big Sugar on September 5, The Australian Pink Floyd Show on October 6, American rock band Daughtry on October 24, and the Queen-inspired musical *We Will Rock You* for three ALL AGES shows on November 29 and November 30 [all in 2019].

Editor's Note
Scott Weiland, the original vocalist for Velvet Revolver, passed away in December 2015. Additionally, Garry Lowe, the long-time bassist for Big Sugar, passed away in 2018; the band continued touring with a new lineup.
